Client Brief - My Portfolio
During my three years at college all of the briefs we have been set have been written by the lecturers in the department, except for one. Earlier in Block three we had a visit from Craig Black who is a alumni of Glasgow Clyde College who has worked in London and had his work exhibited all over the world. Craig’s prescence was a breath of fresh air in the madness which has been my BA year. Craig’s outlook, ideas, personality and story gave me a much needed boost of motivation and desire to pursure my graphic design career.
Craig launched a branding brief for a lifestyle luxury company called ‘Visio’. This is the first brief I’ve been given that has clear outlines when it comes to the companys ethos and design style and I was so happy to be given something substantial to base my designs from. During the briefing two things became clear to me, I knew what style I wanted to go down with my identity design and I didnt want to disappoint Craig.
My design process for Visio was perhaps the most streamlined and efficient of all of my project that I’ve undertaken this past year and I think this was down to quality of the brief delivered to me as well as only having 3 weeks to produce a full corporate idenitiy system. I put a lot of pressure on myself to go outwith my comfort zone in terms of design style, this project isn’t for me – it’s for a client!
All in all it took me just over 20 hours to produce the deliverables for Craig’s brief, which I think is a personal record for me! Another aspect of this brief that I really enjoyed was getting to put the work on the wall alongside everyone else’s work, it was very interesting to see how differently everyone approached the same brief. Some of the design’s were on point with what I thought Visio should look like. Finally it was time to present my work to Craig and I can honestly say this was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my 3 years at college but the nerves soon subsided once I got talking and got some positive feedback. The Visio brief has been my favourite of 3rd and I can’t wait to work on many more like this in the future.
